Grooming Mistakes Indian Men Make

Most men are oblivious to some of the common personal grooming mistakes they commit daily. Without even knowing, they derail from their 'personal hygiene and grooming' routine, which could be pulling them away from making a good impression.

We spoke to celebrity cosmetic dermatologist, Dr Jaishree Sharad about the right grooming techniques. Here’s what she had to say, "Indian men are very indifferent to their skin issues. That is the reason they are more prone to dark circles under the eyes, wrinkled forehead and dark lips."

So with that in mind, here are a few tips from the expert who takes care of some of the best faces in Bollywood.

Avoiding moisturiser

Do you think it's a woman's thing to follow the cleansing, toning and moisturising routine? Well, it's time you gave you rethought things. It is as important for men to moisturise as it is for women. "Skin covers the largest area of your body. And it is important that it is given ample moisturisation to stay hydrated." Remember, there's nothing exciting about flaky skin.

Blocking suncreen

Most women try to stay away from the sun or splash generous dollops of sunscreen. Men on the other hand share an 'unwanted' affair with the sun. Staying exposed to the sunlight can lead to pigmentation on the forehead. This may also cause premature ageing. "Men feel the same logic doesn't apply to them. On top of that, they find sunscreen lotion very greasy to use. I recommend all my celebrity clients to opt for the new range of products available in the market. They have nano particles and don't feel sticky. It should be a part of your everyday routine."

Ignoring the dampness

Most men rush through the process of towel drying after their daily shower. This is a huge mistake. If they don't dry themselves perfectly, the damp areas can create an atmosphere for fungi to develop.

Toe hygiene

Men hardly pay attention to the spaces between their toes. It is important that they clean their feet, dry the spaces between their toes perfectly and even use dusting powder if they sweat. "It's also very important to change socks daily or even twice a day if you are working out."

Shaving 101

"Men should shave at home and not go to salons." It is imperative to change the razor everyday and ensure that even the handle of the razor is stored hygienically, as it can lead to boils. The easiest way to avoid that is to soak it in hot water after every use.

Soap opera

"It is 'criminal' to use bathing soap on your face. It alters the pH of the skin and can lead to wrinkles faster than you know." It's time to shop for mild cleansers or face wash that will ensure your facial skin is well taken care of.

Scrubbing off the sweat

Most men are in the habit of removing the sweat off their face by rubbing a towel or handkerchief harshly on the face. This should be avoided at all cost. Instead, keep a thermal water mist. Every time you sweat, spray it on your face and gently pat a tissue or a handkerchief on your face. It will remove all the dust and grime away.

Forgoing a proper diet

While women are careful about what they eat, most men don't carry lunch boxes to work and then feast on whatever comes their way. "Diet is extremely important for the well being of your skin and hair. This is a big reason why Indian men start losing hair early."
